2007 State Champions


The Single-Wing Sentinel would like to recognize and congratulations the following Single Wing teams that won 2007 High School State Championships:

Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears -- Juneau Alaska
The Crimson bears won their second large school championship, going 11-0. They defeated Palmer 23 to 13. JDHS averaged 35.5 points per game. Several players were selected on the Alaska State Football Coaches Association All-State team. Including Alex Fagerstrom as the state's offensive player of the year who ran Juneau's successful single-wing offensive and middle linebacker Donovan Wilson as the defensive player of the year. Congratulations to Head Coach Bill Chalmers, his staff and the Crimson Bears!

Akron Rams -- Akron, CO
Akron (13-0) pounded the Limon Badgers 46-14 for the Class 1A state football title, for it's second championship in a row. And this was the fourth title under Coach Brian Christensen. Much of Akron of the success has come from the Rams' use of the single-wing offense, which has racked up 3,523 yards and 55 rushing touchdowns. Congratulations to Head Coach Brian Christensen, his staff and the Akron Rams!

Menominee Maroons -- Menominee, MI
Menominee (14-0) captured its second straight state title and undefeated season. The Maroons had a 21-7 victory over the Jackson Lumen Christi Titans. The Maroons have won 28 straight games dating to 2005. The Maroons' Single-Wing offense rolled up 390 yards in the game. The Maroons and legendary coach Ken Hofer captured their third state title, with the first title being in 1998. Congratulations to Coach Hofer, his staff and the Menominee Maroons!

Santa Rosa Lions -- Santa Rosa, NM
The Santa Rosa Lions (9-1) secured the New Mexico Class 2A football state champions with a 46-7 victory over the Texico Wolverines. For Santa Rosa, accustomed to football success, used its powerful Single-Wing Offense to win its first state title since 1998. Congratulations to Head Coach Frank Ortiz, his staff and the Santa Rosa Lions!

Stone Bridge Bulldogs -- Stone Bridge, VA
The Stone Bridge Bulldogs pummels Potomac for the D-5 title, winning 38 to 0. The Bulldogs Single-Wing was the major factor to Stone Bridges great year. Stone Bridge averaged 40.2 points per game during their 14 & 1 season. Stone Bridge coach Mickey Thompson had two previous shots at a state football title – in 1999 with Park View and 2005 with Stone Bridge; both losses. But this year with his twin sons leading on the field, Coach Thompson and the Bulldogs got their first State Title. Congratulations to Head Coach Mickey Thompson, his staff and the Stone Bridge Bulldogs!
